The California College Republican state federation has officially voted to charter with the College Republicans of America (CRA). California was the first of many state federations to be expelled by the College Republican National Committee (CRNC) in 2019 after former CA Chairman Kimo Gandall exposed widespread corruption and financial issues.

David Chan, the new Chairman of the California federation, said he was happy to make the first step towards creating a new national College Republican federation.

"Our state was the first to be excluded at the national level. While we lucky to be a large enough organization to survive on our own, many states were unable to stay solvent after they were forcibly removed by CRNC. We're excited to be the first state to pave a new path towards national unity in the Republican youth movement."

California cited CRA's comprehensive growth plan, talented management team, and lack of turnover in leadership as some drivers of their decision to join.

Chan went on to explain that their state federation, having consistently raised over $50,000 each year for the last couple years, didn't really have a pressing financial need to join a national federation. Despite this, he still decided to charter with CRA because he believes that the CRA leadership team has the potential to create a new "giant" in conservative movement.

Will Donahue, President of CRA and Chairman Emeritus of the California College Republicans, said this momentous occasion was "the beginning of a new era."

"CRA has been in the back of my mind for several years now. We grew California into the largest and most influential state federation in the United States with over 30 chapters and 25,000+ cross platform social media followers. All that we've accomplished up until this point has been in preparation for launching this organization. I'm thrilled that my former colleagues have decided to join us in this endeavor and we are lucky to be starting with the most prominent state federation in the Union."

President Donahue is encouraging all surviving College Republican federations and solo chapters to follow California's lead and join CRA. All are welcome, and chartering prior to the Las Vegas convention at Caesar's Palace in June will ensure everyone can attend and have a positive experience.

Moxie History

Moxie was originally CCR's print Magazine, which ran from c. 2003-2011. Moxie functioned as both a news source and a yearbook for College Republicans before the social media age. Moxie was very popular in its print days — and even made its way in the hands of prominent political commentator Sean Hannity! Chairmen Emeriti Dylan Martin and Nick Ortiz revived Moxie in 2020 as CCR's news arm.
